I’m obsessed with “Doomsday Preppers,” the hit show on the cable channel National Geographic.
For those of you unfamiliar, the reality series follows “preppers” as they ready their homes and families for an apocalyptic type event, whether it is a global pandemic, economic collapse, government overthrow, killer earthquake, super-volcano or terrorist attack. The preppers are often seen preparing their homes against invasion, running tactical maneuvers, storing water and food, or learning survival skills. And note, these are not radicals planning a hostile government invasion; these are normal, everyday citizens who believe a cataclysmic life-ending event is pending, and they are preparing for it.
This is where you come into the picture, Fairbanks, and why I’m reaching out to you. I’m interested in delving into the Alaska prepper community — and surely we have some in Interior Alaska. If you are a prepper, or know of any preppers, shoot me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or feel free to leave me a voice message. I’m looking forward to speaking to you and finding out why you do what you do.
