To the editor:
Until two weeks ago, I did not know what the City Council was meant for. I am a Boy Scout of Troop 49 here in North Pole. Currently we are working to earn the communications merit badge, and part of the requirement for the badge is that I must attend an actual City Council meeting.
I have to say it was very informative. I encourage anybody who is interested in their city’s affairs to attend these meetings. There was a presentation from a home for the elderly that was asking for money from the city’s budget, which was considered and approved by the council.
It was very beneficial for me to learn about the different things the council has to consider on each issue before they vote.
I feel that the issue of electing council members should not be taken lightly. In fact, we should all attend council meetings to keep ourselves informed about their opinions and where they stand on the issues. This would help us elect and re-elect the members that really represent our interests.
