Arson fire damages Anchorage school playground

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — School district officials say an arson fire at an Anchorage school early Monday caused about $45,000 in damage.

The Anchorage Daily News reports ( the fire was at Aquarian Charter School in the city's Spenard neighborhood.

Officials say the recently-installed rubber mulch playground was set afire before 5 a.m. The fire spread to an outdoor climbing wall.

School officials say the damaged equipment will be rebuilt or replaced, but it likely won't be done before students return to school Aug. 22.
