FAIRBANKS — The Arctic Bears girls high school hockey team from Fairbanks continued its winning ways Thursday evening, skating to a 3-1 victory against Service/East at Ben Boeke Arena in Anchorage.

It was the third straight win for the Arctic Bears, who improved to 3-0-1 on the season. The Fairbanks squad opened its season earlier this month by going 2-0-1 against Dimond/West in a three-game series at the Patty Center.

Courtney Evans, Zahn Thompson and Erika Martin scored for the Arctic Lions. Assists were not available.

Martin’s third-period insurance goal came 41 seconds after Service-East’s Kaitlan Miknich scored a power-play goal to cut Fairbanks’ lead to 2-1.

Sabrina Nichols made 11 saves for the Arctic Lions, and Julia Miknich stopped six shots for Service-East.

The Arctic Bears continue their three-game road trip to Anchorage at 4 p.m. today against Service/East. The trip concludes Saturday with a game at Chugiak/Eagle River.
