ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A 50-year-old Anchorage woman who looked out her apartment window after hearing a disturbance was shot by a stray bullet.

Police spokeswoman Anita Shell says in a statement the shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in midtown Anchorage. A group of people gathered in the parking lot of an apartment complex and an argument ensued.

Shell says Ludmila Edwards heard the commotion and looked out her window. About the same time, Shell says someone fired a gun.

Shell said the stray bullet went through Edwards' apartment and hit her. She was taken to a hospital, but police are not releasing the extent of her injuries or her condition.

The crowd broke up after the shot, and witnesses told police two vehicles sped away.

Police continue to investigate..
