ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Social Security Administration's office in Anchorage will have reduced hours starting in January.
KTUU reports (http://is.gd/UTTLIJ) the office already shaved 30 minutes off its day earlier this month. It's open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
But starting Jan. 2, the office will close at noon every Wednesday.
Employees will still work regular hours, but the extra time that the office will be closed to the public will allow staff to conduct face-to-face interviews and process paperwork without having to use overtime.
The agency says the cuts are necessary because of reduced funding from Congress.
Officials say most services don't require an office visit, and many items can be handled on the website http://www.ssa.gov/ .
