ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Police say officers shot and wounded a suspect after he pulled a gun during a traffic stop in downtown Anchorage.

Lt. Dave Parker says a vehicle was stopped Sunday evening on Denali Street near 11th Avenue.

He says a routine computer check showed that a male passenger was the subject of a felony warrant.

After backup arrived, two officers tried to take him into custody but he pulled a gun.

Parker says the officers opened fire and hit the suspect at least once. He was hospitalized with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The two officers and the two other occupants of the vehicle were uninjured.

No names were released.
