ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage police have issued an Amber Alert after they say a woman removed her 2-day--old boy from the Alaska Native Medical Center on Tuesday.

Police are looking for 30-year-old Monica Vasquez. Police spokesman Lt. Dave Parker says in a release that they are concerned for the safety of both Vasquez and the child.

The Anchorage Daily News reports (http://is.gd/MLe3mL ) the child was taken against doctor's orders.

Police say they responded just before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday to a possible child abduction report at the medical center. Police say the focus shifted when it was discovered Vasquez left the hospital with her newborn.

The Amber Alert triggered statewide notifications of the search for Vasquez and her 7-pound baby.
