ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The town of Girdwood and the Alyeska Ski Resort are feeling the pain of too little snow.

KTUU-TV (http://is.gd/lKKcXo) reports that local businesses are seeing a dip in sales and there are fewer skiers on the slopes.

Alyeska mountain services manager Brian Burnett says typically the weekend before Christmas is very busy, but not this year. That is due in big part to the lack of snow that has prevented the resort from opening the entire mountain.

As of Sunday afternoon, only the beginner runs and some of the intermediate runs were open. The resort is making snow, and lots of it.

Burnett says as soon as Mother Nature allows, the rest of the mountain will open up.

Things could be looking up. The National Weather Service is forecasting snow for Christmas week.
