FAIRBANKS — Alaska Nanooks swimmers won two relays and four individual events Saturday, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Cal State East Bay’s depth in their dual meet at the Patty Center.
The Pioneers from California notched their second straight win over the Nanooks, posting a 111-93 victory. Cal State East Bay won 106-98 Friday night.
Junior Bente Heller was a double-winner for the Nanooks, claiming the 50-yard freestyle 24.74 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 53.00.
Margot Adams and Gabi Summers earned Alaska’s other individual victories.
Adams, a sophomore, posted a pool record 2:08.15 in winning the 200 butterfly. Summers, also a sophomore, cruised to victory in the 500 freestyle with a 5:13:04, more than five seconds faster than the runner-up.
Heller combined with Eileen Audette, dams and Kelly Meierotto to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:50.33, just .23 seconds off the pool record.
An all sophomore relay of Danielle Lyons, Summers, Adams and Meierotto posted a 3:40..98 to claim 400 freestyle relay.
Sophomore Alyssa Tenney led the way for Cal State East Bay with a victories in the 400 individual medley (4:50.37) and 200 backstroke (2:13.75).
Other winners for the Pioneers were freshman Rachel Schimizu in the 1,640 freestyle (18:04.58), senior Jenel Lopez in the 200 freestyle (1:56.71) and freshman Mikala Schuck in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.36).
