ANCHORAGE, Alaska - It was giant pumpkin grower Dale Marshall's Alaska State Fair weigh-off to lose.

The Anchorage Daily News (http://is.gd/jV2tfC) says Marshall was the only one with qualifiers in this year's Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off.

At the weigh-in on Tuesday, Marshall's two pumpkins were the only ones in the show ring. It had appeared he would have some competition but the other pumpkins were disqualified after being examined for small holes that penetrate the gourd's cavity.

Last year, Marshall showed up with a pumpkin weighing over 1,700 pounds, but it was disqualified for the same reason.

Marshall's winning pumpkin this year weighed 931 pounds.

The fair's next big vegetable event happens on Friday with the Giant Cabbage Weigh-Off.
