ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A former Anchorage man has been sentenced to two years in prison for illegally possessing a machine gun.

U.S. Attorney for Alaska Karen L. Loeffler says 52-year-old Matthew Wayne Henry modified a .308-caliber rifle to make it into a machine gun.

Prosecutors presented evidence at his trial that Henry fired the gun in late October 2009 from the front door of his house in a residential Chugiak neighborhood. He was convicted April 13.

Senior U.S. District Judge H. Russel Holland also sentenced Henry to three years of supervised release and fined him $7,500.
