FAIRBANKS — The Alaska Commercial Co. is donating a collection of historical papers to the University of Alaska Fairbanks Rasmuson Library. A transfer ceremony was held Monday evening at the Robert B. Atwood Building in Anchorage.
The ACC papers and record books document commerce from 1868 to 1940 at St. Michael on the Bering Sea coast and in several Yukon River villages. The records will join a large collection of ACC papers already at the library.
A former ACC president collected the items over a period of years, then took them out of Alaska when he retired, according to a news release from UAF.
“Recently his widow ‘repatriated’ them to us and we are pleased to ensure that Alaskans will now have access to them through the Rasmuson Library,” said Rex Wilhelm, president and COO of ACC, in the news release.
ACC, a division of The North West Company International Inc., does business in rural Alaska as AC Value Centers.
