FAIRBANKS — Borough officials will hold a series of public meetings on poor air quality, the first of which will be Thursday at 6 p.m. in Hotel North Pole.

Staff from the Fairbanks North Star Borough’s Air Quality Division will talk with residents about how air pollution in the neighborhood affects their health and how they can help.

The division has issued several air quality alerts in the North Pole area during recent weeks, advising some people to avoid outdoor activity. The problematic pollutant is microscopic particulate matter that lodges deeply in the lungs.

For more information on the meetings, contact Jim Conner at the borough’s air quality office, 451-1005.
