To the editor:

Do you support maintaining Eielson Air Force Base? Do you prefer local community control to state or federal? Tammie Wilson doesn’t appear to do so.

Despite what she says about supporting Eielson, her actions speak much louder than her words. Decisions about maintaining Eielson include important factors impacting health and safety, such as air quality. Yet Tammie sponsored and supported a petition that not only negatively impacted measures to improve air quality but also moved local control to the state and/or the feds.

The Daily News-Miner reported on Oct. 25 that the Fairbanks North Star Borough “ ... has issued an air quality alert for the North Pole area because of ‘unhealthy’ levels of fine particulate pollution. Air quality for the Fairbanks area also is expected to degrade to unhealthy levels.”

Tammie also supported giving away $2 billion annually to the oil companies without any guarantees benefiting Alaskans in return. Rep. Bob Miller has a much better record for supporting and working for Alaskans first.
