FAIRBANKS - We’ve received many holiday haikus from our creative readers, but there are still a few more days to submit yours in our little contest.

Deadline is the end of Wednesday, Dec. 21. We’ll publish as many as we can on this page on Saturday, Dec. 24. It’ll be a nice Christmas Eve treat.

Here are a couple of recent submissions

to get you in the

writing mood:

Trees sparkle with lights

Homes and hearts too, now aglow

Peace and goodwill reign.

— Nancy Gigliotti, Fairbanks

Christmas is coming

Kids gather around the tree

To open presents

— Hunter True, seventh grade, Ben Eielson Jr./Sr. High School

Remember, a haiku has a first line of five syllables, a second a line of seven syllables, and a third line of five syllables.

Submit yours to ourtown@newsminer.com or drop it off at the News-Miner office, located at 200 N. Cushman St.

We’ll give a $25 Visa gift card to the winner, as determined by

our panel of haiku honchos.
